BC MLA Michelle Stilwell won the gold medal in the T52 100 metre race on Tuesday. She’s one of the most decorated wheelchair racers, boasting gold medals at the Sydney, Bejing, and London Paralympic Games. She is the only female Paralympic athlete to have ever won gold in two separate summer sport events, as she began her parasport adventure as a wheelchair basketball player. She currently holds the world record in the 100m at 18.67, the 200m at 33.58, and the 800m at 2:14.79 in the T52 class.
While taking a moment away from the BC legislature and her role as the Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation, she defeated Kerry Morgan (USA) and Cassie Mitchell (USA) with a 19.58 time.
“It was an amazing opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd. To stand on the top step of the podium will be a great memory for me,” said Stilwell.
